U-Haul buys another million gallons of renewable propane for sale in California stores
Customers have used the first million gallons of U-Haul renewable propane purchased in 2020, and the second million gallons are already hitting stores. U-Haul plans to continue offering sustainable products through California discounts on clean fuels.
“U-Haul is a leader in sustainability initiatives. When the opportunity arose to provide our customers with one of the cleanest, most environmentally friendly energy resources, we couldn’t pass it up, ”said Dwight Farr, U-Haul Propane Program Manager. “Renewable propane burns cleaner than energy infrastructure in 49 states. We look forward to the advancement of renewable propane so that we can expand it across the United States and Canada in the years to come.”

Benefits of renewable propane
No cost increases are passed on to U-Haul customers as a result of the renewable propane initiative.
The benefits of renewable propane include:
- Being derived from renewable sources such as beef fats, vegetable oils, grease residues and other biomass raw materials
- Benefiting from a lower carbon intensity than traditional propane while offering similar performance measurements
- Have a low carbon intensity score compared to gasoline, diesel and compressed natural gas, thereby reducing harmful contributors to greenhouse gases
For every million gallons of renewable propane made available by U-Haul, this has the global effect of removing 5 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere, according to statistics from Western Propane Gas Association shared in 2020.
“We are delighted to continue our relationship with U-Haul to provide renewable propane in the state of California, further supporting our collective efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the state, ”said Nandini Sankara, spokesperson for Suburban Propane. “As the United States adopts stricter policies to reduce the country’s greenhouse gases and carbon footprint, Suburban Propane is dedicated to providing innovative solutions and products to meet evolving needs. “
